I'm still not getting the 3" seam allowance. I printed the tile pieced and made my pattern but this seam allowance sounds too big? It this right?Posted by Jollyewe on March 23, 2008 at 11:04:15 Pacific Time

I had the same question. I don't know why they printed that in the magazine but the gray box on the pattern says to sew 5/8" seam allowances so I used that measurement. I made the skirt this week end and it came out fine.
I combined the beginner and advanced patterns because I liked elements from both.

In the instructions it says *Sew all seam allowances 3" unless otherwise noted in the sewing instructions or on the pattern.* Does this mean sew 3" in from the pattern edge or do you need to add 3" on all sides of the pattern?
This seems like a gigantic seam allowance to me.Posted by denika on March 21, 2008 at 06:12:02 Pacific Time

Hi - I made the beginner skirt last night with, I think, great success. I used 5/8" seam allowances for everything except the front pocket.Posted by house of jam on March 31, 2008 at 08:08:46 Pacific Time

- look at printer options

This might work. I looked at the print options (for my HP printer) when I chose to print the pattern. There was a section called "page handling", and within that is an option called "page scaling", with a drop-down menu.*
The default on this was "reduce to printer margins", but on the drop-down menu there is a choice for "tile large pages", which looks like it will print the pattern over multiple pages. 49, to be exact! I guess they can be taped together after that. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm fairly sure this would allow for it to be printed at the size it should be.
*These terms might be different for different models/printer brands, but I think the basic idea should be the same.Posted by curioush on February 09, 2008 at 09:45:28 Pacific Time

I'm glad some other people have wondered about this too. I was so excited to make this but couldn't figure out how to print the pattern. I think taking it to a Kinkos to print out in full size will be $$$. Adobe says the page is 55 X 68.
Glad to know I wasn't just missing something obvious!Posted by TinaA on February 07, 2008 at 13:13:41 Pacific Time
