Make a patchwork bedcover with vintage scarves.

From the column DIY: Cover It

by Lindsay Brown, Sarah Gee

Care and Washing Instructions

Since the scarves have been washed and their dye set, and the hemp backing has been pre-shrunk, the whole bedspread can be gently washed in cold water, either by hand or in the wool cycle. Iron the silk/poly side on relatively low heat, and the hemp side on high heat. Some polyester scarves will actually melt under a hot iron, so be careful and do a test before you sew with them! Dry-cleaning is fine, just not very environmentally friendly unless you have one of the new environment-friendly dry-cleaners nearby.

This bedspread is relatively sturdy – more than you'd expect – but its main function is decorative. If pets and kids are going to sit on the bed, fold the bedspread halfway down to expose only the hemp side.
