DIY Trunk Show
The DIY Trunk Show is an annual event that brings the best of the Chicago area's alternative craft community to the people. We believe:
Craft is powerful. We want to show the depth and breadth of the Chicago crafting community. Anything you wantclothing, jewelry, art, musicyou can probably get from a real live person here in Chicago. And buying handmade, one-of-a-kind goods from your neighbor kicks the ass of buying mass-produced, slave-made corporate stuff.
Craft is personal. To know that something was made by hand, by someone who cares that you like it, makes that object much more enjoyable. And it makes you feel less lonely when you realize that you know the name of the person who made the bar of soap you use, the earrings you wore when you met that special someone, or the scarf that kept you from freezing while you waited for the train.
Craft is political. We're not just trying to sell stuff. We're trying to change the world. We want everyone to rethink corporate culture and consumerism.
Craft is possible. Everybody can create somethingyou don't have to be an established business to make stuff. The DIY Trunk Show encourages new crafters by giving them a place to sell their work for the first time. We hold workshops to teach people how to make things. And we're creating friendships and connections between craftersbeing a small business owner doesn't mean you have to work in isolation.

Rock and Roll
In 2005 a group of crafty friends saw a need for opportunities to exhibit and sell the fruits of their labor. Over many games of poker (and countless glasses of wine), Heather Visnesky, Jessi Kelley, Krista Durlas, and Sharlene Kindt decided to create their own show, incorporating a rock and roll theme with their interest in the burgeoning craft movement. The women set to work recruiting St. Louis artists for the department store-style Rock N Roll Craft Show. The first show, in October 2005, was an overwhelming success. The shows website received over 140,000 hits in the weeks leading up the event. Over 50 juried artists exhibited over 1,800 distinctive, handmade items and attracted over 2,000 shoppers in a mere 7 hours.
Three new organizers joined the founding members for the June 2006 edition of Rock N Roll Craft Show: Sara Arnold, Meghan McGlynn, and Nora Vandivort. The event was extended for an entire weekend and was named the Best Craft Exhibition in Saint Louis by the Riverfront Times. Over 70 artists were accepted to exhibit their wares while 9 bands rocked the crowd of over 4,000 people. Shoppers patiently lined up outside the venue, and once inside, racked up over $25,000 in sales in two days. The offerings included apparel, purses and bags, wallets, housewares, ceramics and pottery, jewelry, knitwear, home décor, magnets, furniture, framed photos, zines, toys, baby items, belts, and much more. Everything was handmade using a variety of new and recycled materials.
The latest offering of Rock N Roll Craft Show will be bigger and better than ever, and comes just in time for the 2006 holiday shopping season. The show is the perfect alternative to the madness of the corporate retail shopping scene. Shoppers can take a break from gift browsing to relax with a drink and a snack while checking out one of the featured bands or participate in one of the craft workshops held throughout both days. Additionally, our generous sponsors will be giving away attendance prizes such as gift certificates and merchandise.

Best Guerrilla Art: Indie Craft Experience
OK, maybe reconstituted thrift-store clothes and witty handbags dont exactly jibe with the traditional macho, street-art, culture-jamming definition of guerrilla. But with the second annual INDIE CRAFT EXPERIENCE in Atlanta rating a mention in the New York Times Magazine, the ladies-and-lads who craft proved creativity isnt just limited to galleries. And they upped the profile on nontraditional art-making in the city.

Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Sale
The Renegade Craft Fair is a unique DIY event organized by Sue Blatt + Kathleen Habbley. When this event began in 2003, there was nothing else like it. We took up crafts as a hobby after college and decided to try selling our stuff in local fairs. To our surprise, no events were catering to the burgeoning DIY craft community or even prohibited crafts all together. So we thought of organizing a fair of our own that tapped into this movement and provided a laid back, fresh venue for artists and shoppers alike. We have some exciting news that's been in the works for a few months now...the first ever Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Sale! It's scheduled to take place on December 9 + 10 (from noon-5pm) at Pulaski Park (1419 W. Blackhawk). It's guaranteed to be the perfect source for all your holiday shopping needs! If you're interested in joining, we'll be accepting applications until November 1 so get to it!
